Thank you for liking my recipe. I am a new blogger. So not as expert like you. We people of Kerala also make atta flour pittu. But we make it in pittu maker. We put 2 to 3 spoons flour , then 1 spoon of grated coconut , again flour and so on till it is filled. When cooked we can separate them into pieces. The pittu maker consists of a pot in which water is filled and a cylindrical portion where flour is filled .(Here we call it as puttu)
Hi Anitha! You have a nice blog and I am not at all an expert in the culinary field… my mother is 🙂 I am simply happy to share her recipes and that of others who have shared their personal recipes on my blog. Actually, we call it either pittu or puttu here depending on which part of the country one is from. And the traditional way of making pittu here is using bamboo or the pittu maker as in this earlier recipe that I posted.
Is Atta flour gluten-free?
I checked it up on wikipedia, Laura, and unfortunately atta flour is quite high in gluten content. There is another flour that my mother uses to make pittu – kurakkan flour or ragi, which is gluten-free.
Awesome, thank you for checking! I am going to get some the next time I’m in Minneapolis (the nearest place with a market that would have that)!
Memories of eating this as a kid with milk and sugar!
Simple and nice
Looks awesome!
Thank you 🙂
